Building the evidence: Children and Young People (5 - 18 yrs)

Dance participation can improve cardiovascular health and prevent or reduce obesity whilst opportunities to perform dance can be particularly effective at improving confidence and self esteem. Dance is popular with girls, particularly adolescents, who are at higher risk of inactivity. Afterschool and community dance programmes are effective at increasing activity levels as well as embedding dance within the school curriculum.
