Funding for Dance in Health and Wellbeing

Sport England new funding opportunities for dance

Sport England has widened its remit to include “wide and varied forms of dance” and has £145 million of funding allocated to tackle inactivity (link to Tackling Inactivity section). Information and key dates for funding streams can be found here.  The Families Fund opens on the 6th July and this £10 million investment is looking for projects that can help families with children aged 5-15, get active together. It will focus on low income families and families living in areas of high deprivation

New opportunities for dance in Primary Schools

The government have announced that a further £160 million funding will be put into the PE in School Sports Premium from the 2017/18, doubling the fund nationally. Sporting First - First Annual Report

The aim of the fund is to improve the quality of PE and to increase children’s physical activity through dance as well as sport. Each Primary School will receive additional funding with schools in disadvantaged areas receiving proportionally more. This presents a great opportunity for dance in schools particularly as girls are less active than boys at all ages and dance is popular with girls.
